Nail Fungus: Can Treatment Succeed?

Nail Fungus, technically called onychomycosis, is a slow progressive process that causes the nail plate to become discolored and thick.  Nail fungus itself doesn't hurt, but when it gets too thick and/or deforms the nail plate, increased pressure can start to cause pain.

Nail fungus is difficult to treat, but there is good reason to do so.  As time goes on, the amount of nail plate damages slowly accumulates.  If left untreated for several years, the fungal infection can cause a nail to look like 'tree bark'.

Depending on the severity of the nail fungus, topical medication and/or oral medications can be helpful and curative.

Sometimes removal of a fungal toenail is the prudent measure.  This painless minimally invasive in-office procedure can be performed to let the nail grown back while being treated with medications to improve odds of beating it.  For people who are fed up with this issue, removing the deformed nail permanently is also an option.

Sohl Foot & Ankle will provide you with the best options and create a treatment plan with and for you.

Too often fear of a doctor (White Coat Syndrome) delays intervention, leading to increased pain.
