Ingrown Nail Pain

Inflammation, puss and pain are the hallmarks of a moderate severity ingrown toenail.
Ingrown Nails are no fun and should not be tolerated. There are varying degrees of ingrown nails, some hurt a little, some hurt a whole lot. Different treatments need to be applied depending on what your ingrown nail looks like and the root cause.

When the ingrown nail pierces the skin, it sometimes stimulates rapid overgrowth of the nail fold skin.

Caution, Not for the Squeamish
Most people are surprised to learn that young people (age 10-14) develop ingrown nails more often than any other age group. No matter what age though, pain from an ingrown nail can affect daily activities. Simple things like walking, wearing a shoe, or even resting a blanket on the toe could increase the pain.
Severity and cause of the ingrown toenail dictate what is to be done. A mild ingrown toenail may only need some skilled hands to resolve. A moderately painful ingrown nail will likely need local anesthetic to allow painless and comfortable treatment. A severely ingrown toenail may need antibiotics or cauterization. It just depends on your situation.
This amount of red discoloration and swelling raises the suspicion of an infection. Skilled intervention is needed.

Too often fear of a doctor (White Coat Syndrome) delays intervention, leading to increased pain.
'Bathroom Surgery' is not the answer to treating an ingrown nail. Skilled hands and medical expertise will help get this issue fixed fast for you or your family members.
We recommend addressing this kind of issue quickly before the severity increases over time.
